What is an Ultrasound Scan?

An ultrasound scan is a painless examination, which is carried out using sound waves emitted through a transducer into the body. These sound waves create an image enabling the sonographer to assess and examine the internal organs of the abdomen. The kidneys, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen and abdominal aorta can be evaluated for disease, infections and abnormalities.
